After over two years of a commercial nicotine pouch ban, the federal Liberal government may finally be preparing to lift restrictions and allow Canadian retailers to sell the product that Health Canada’s data even says has helped many Canadians quit smoking tobacco.
According to a National Post report, which relies on a confidential source the outlet says is a “senior federal government official,” the federal Liberals are expressing an “openness” to go back on its Trudeau-era nicotine pouch ban, which relegated the product's sales to pharmacies.
Health Canada has not responded to Juno News requests to confirm the feds' alleged change in approach to the product, which studies show may be less harmful than smoking cigarettes and can be a helpful smoking cessation tool.
