Coun. Dan McCreary says the changes would shift fireworks from backyards to organized events without taking away fun or childhood experiences.

Brantford residents could be banned from setting off fireworks in their backyards if city council approves new rules on June 23, including a ban on consumer fireworks sales effective January 2027.

Community, religious and other organizations could still hold permitted fireworks displays in designated parks. Events would require a permit from the Brantford Fire Department, insurance coverage and a licensed operator, at a cost of just over $340.
