Naheed Nenshi officially began his term as MLA for Edmonton-Strathcona, spending much of his first press conference accusing Premier Smith of stoking division and playing political games with national unity.
He also criticized the UCP’s new directive on school library content, calling it “purely performative” — while Smith defended the move as necessary to protect children.
And federally, Pierre Poilievre warns of a coordinated attempt to flood the ballot in his upcoming Alberta byelection.
All that and more on this week’s episode of The Alberta Roundup with Isaac Lamoureux.
Great video as usual, Isaac. I noticed Professor Trevor Tombe sitting on Danielle Smith's left in one of your video clips. I wonder if he now concedes that the Bank of Canada in its 2021 renewal agreement moved to a policy that was essentially the same as the US Fed's so-called average inflation targeting framework. Our current PM, Mark Carney, enthused about the new US Fed framework in his book "Value(s)", which for some reason never got the attention during the election campaign that it deserved. This is very much a live issue as our central bank has never renounced its commitment to inflation overshooting at the effective lower bound, a policy that is as alarming as it sounds. We saw what it did to our inflation rate in 2022. Since he is living in Calgary why don't you try to interview Professor Tombe and ask him about this?
Good job on this review.
