Tech platforms threaten to pull out of Canada if Bill C-22 passes

Messaging platform Signal and VPN providers NordVPN and Windscribe have indicated that Bill C-22 would be a deal breaker for them due to privacy concerns.

A number of tech platforms, including Signal, NordVPN and Windscribe, say they will pull out of Canada if the Liberals’ Bill C-22 passes.

The legislation would give the Carney government authority to compel telecommunications companies to retain user data, including location information, for up to 365 days without evidence of a crime.
