While Canadian families struggle with rising grocery bills and record housing costs, governments have funnelled hundreds of millions into “menstrual equity” initiatives at home and abroad.

A review of federal grant databases shows at least $177 million committed to international menstrual projects since 2018, alongside roughly $32 million in federal and provincial domestic funding. The total does not include in-kind corporate partnerships worth millions more.

This investigation reveals how a niche social issue became a multi-level government priority.
