Taxpayers on the hook for healthcare of 74K illegal immigrants: report

Of the nearly 74,000 failed claimants, about 22,700 were deemed “removal not possible,” 23,400 were in the removal process, and 27,800 were wanted for deportation.

A new Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) report found that, as of February 2026, about 74,000 failed refugee claimants were in the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) removals inventory, with many still eligible for taxpayer-funded healthcare.

Of those nearly 74,000 individuals, about 22,700 were deemed “removal not possible,” 23,400 were in the removal process, and 27,800 were wanted for deportation.
