Taxpayers call on Ottawa to end “undemocratic" alcohol escalator tax

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says "merely capping increases in future years doesn’t go even nearly far enough” when it comes to taxes on alcohol.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is calling on Prime Minister Mark Carney to end the alcohol escalator tax, first introduced by his predecessor, Justin Trudeau, in 2017.

The tax automatically increases federal alcohol taxes annually by two per cent.
