A Durham Region activist is raising concerns after attending a taxpayer-funded Pride event in Ajax that was billed as “all ages” and “family friendly,” but which he says featured sexualized performances and adult-themed displays in plain view of children.

Ryan Larche, a self-described “born-again Christian activist” in Durham Region, attended a LGBT+ Pride event in Ajax, Ontario, at the Ajax Community Centre, hosted by the municipality and decided to record.

He recorded a caregiver handing a young girl a $5 bill and encouraging her to “tip” a drag queen after the performer had just danced sexually for the audience, alongside a publicly visible fetish gear tent and BDSM kink flags.

Larche spoke with Juno News about the event and said Oshawa city councillor Derek Giberson followed him, questioned him and recorded him while he was on site.
