Tamara Lich says Canadians “deserve a judiciary free of Chief Justice Wagner”
Weeks after the government invoked the Emergencies Act, Chief Justice Richard Wagner described the Freedom Convoy as anarchists and hostage takers.
Freedom Convoy leader Tamara Lich is questioning whether Canada’s top judge can truly be impartial, after Chief Justice Richard Wagner called for a “politics-free” judiciary while refusing to address his own past remarks on the Freedom Convoy, including describing protesters as “anarchists” and “hostage takers” before hearing related cases.
Wagner said this week that Canadians deserved an independent judiciary, with judges making impartial decisions free from political or outside pressure. “We have to protect that,” he claimed.
His remarks drew criticism from Lich, who wrote on X that it was “totally normal” for the Chief Justice to condemn critics of the institution he oversees.
“Canadians deserve a judiciary free of Chief Justice Wagner.”
