For the second time in less than a month, Kap’s Café, owned by a Bollywood celebrity in Surrey, B.C.’s Newton neighbourhood, has been hit by gunfire.
According to Surrey police, at around 4:40 am on Thursday morning, several windows of the café were shattered by bullets.
Authorities confirmed Thursday that staff were present during the Thursday morning shooting, but fortunately, no one was injured.
“There were staff inside at the time, much like there was on July 10, and thankfully, no staff were injured,” said Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton with the Surrey Police Service.
Forensic investigators are also examining at least one “Molotov cocktail-type” device found on the ground outside the business, Houghton confirmed.
The same business was the location of a similar incident on July 1.
Kapil Sharma, the café’s namesake owner, is a popular comic, actor, producer and singer in Bollywood with more than 45 million Instagram followers.
He opened the regal-looking café in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood just weeks before the repeated shootings.
That neighbourhood has been at the forefront of multiple controversies, including the high-profile death of Khalistani activist and former Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara president Hardeep Singh Nijjar and a wave of alleged extortion crimes.
No one has been arrested in connection with either shooting. However, a video posted online following the first incident appeared to show an individual brazenly filming as the shots were fired.
Pretty sure we're all getting really Sikh of this bullshit.
