Supreme Court grants legal challenge regarding WE Charity scandal

The Supreme Court of Canada has unanimously ruled in favour of an advocacy group seeking to challenge a federal ethics commissioner’s decision that former prime minister Justin Trudeau did not violate the Conflict of Interest Act in the WE Charity scandal.
In May 2021, then–ethics commissioner Mario Dion concluded Trudeau did not breach the Conflict of Interest Act by participating in the decision to approve the WE Charity grant program, despite his then-wife volunteering with the organization.
