Statistics Canada is set to release crucial inflation data while Canadian financial markets are closed, a move critics say could hand foreign investors an “artificial advantage.”

Canada’s chief economic data agency plans to update its Consumer Price Index on Feb. 16, a day when eight provinces will be enjoying a statutory holiday. This means equity and bond markets will be closed.
