Guilbeault says he will tell the Liberal caucus about his decision on Wednesday. He confirmed his decision to CTV News on Tuesday.
The announcement comes after four federal sources told media that the former environment and climate change minister planned to resign from the Liberal caucus in response to the Carney government’s shift on climate policy.
Guilbeault has allegedly taken umbrage with Ottawa scaling back its Trudeau-era climate policies and particularly with the recent memorandum of understanding that Prime Minister Mark Carney signed with Alberta regarding the construction of a new pipeline.
