Prime Minister Mark Carney defended the multi-year grounding of Canada’s iconic Snowbirds squadron on Tuesday, stating he “inherited” an aging, depleted fleet of jets that he claims can no longer be flown safely.

Speaking to reporters in Quebec, Carney addressed growing public disappointment over Ottawa’s decision to sideline the 431 Aerial Demonstration Squadron after the 2026 season.

Observers have questioned why the government could not keep the aerobatics team airborne until their replacement planes arrive in the early 2030s.
