Alberta Premier Danielle Smith used a fiery appearance before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainability on Thursday to defend her province’s energy record.
Climate change is not human caused. Not caused by CO2 either. A look at historical temperatures, even just the last 1500 years should clear up that fallacy.
climate change is cyclical. History proves that temperature rises before C02 levels rise, the narrative is reversed. The temperature rise is what releases the carbon from the sea or the soil. C02 levels were well above 2000 ppm during the roman times when they were growing grapevines in England. Now they are around the 440 ppm level, and if it goes below 280 ppm the world goes into starvation due to no plant food. No plants, no animals who eat plants. the information is available, read the studies, the science proves it, he is correct. Farmers add C02 to crops, green houses add C02. Geological reports will show the history of C02. The Boreal Forest actually absorbs 11% more carbon than Canada produces, so we should get credit on the world stage. I have been studying climate science since 1990. Also, you cant make wind turbines or solar energy without carbon. So they are not an alternative or carbon neutral, they actually produce more carbon than natural gas. There are other flaws too, but this is not a lecture, do your research.
Patrick Bonin should go to India and China to see where the big problems are. Climate change is a natural phenomenon. Time for this money making BS to stop. Wind turbines and solar power are not the end all be all cause they cause just as much environmental damage and is cause for concern. Also electric vehicles cause damage too.
China is leading the world re electrification. That as well are working with the global south/Asian to fast forward electrification and have been for some time. They are supporting other countries in the upgrading of their grads and manufacturing and installation of green energy products in the global south. Other countries are progressing quickly in ending their reliance on fossil fuels that is why the IEA states peak oil demand will decline by 2029. That is in four short years. North America lags behind every other country re electrification. China is leading and prospering in this technology and North America has lost out burying our heads in the sand.
No one is saying fossil fuels will be gone because as is known is it used in multiple applications but surely Alberta is capable of supporting green energy and traditional energy at the same time. Right now this province is taking the approach it has to be one or the other which is so damaging to investment and growth in this province. Alberta lost 91 million dollars in tax revenue and over 33 BILLION dollars in investments along with a possible 24,000 jobs when Smith shut down the Renewable energy programs and industries. Jobs that Albertan’s would have benefited from. Right now the up front requirements age is requiring from these corporations is tying their hands behind their backs meanwhile she shields oil and gas from their delinquency on handling their decommissioned wells that to this day have not been properly shut down at their expense as required by their contracts. She is now trying to wrangle ways thaf these billions in costs will fall on Alberta taxpayers. Those wells are continuing to pollute the soil and waterways. Albertan’s need to truly wake up as to how much oil and gas get away with in this province. They are wealthy US companies ripping off taxpayers. Stop thinking they care about you.
The damage to investment and growth in this province and country is due to the Federal government.
Nuclear is green and data centers have been approached as a viable option. So Alberta is supporting green options, just not the ones that already failed.
I am all for real reliable energy that actually works. Personally when I find something is a money pit, I tend to cut my losses.
Do you look forward to brown or black outs? Not once in a blue moon, but scheduled ones, daily. That is what wind and solar energy brings to Canada. Look into Germany's attempt at alternative energy. They had to revert back, it does not work. They also get extreme cold weather. People die when energy fails. Also, look at Texas, people died there too, from the heat. I dont want that for Canada. Germany came to us for gas. Canada has a habit of implementing programs that already failed in other countries.
"Green" energy as presented today is not green and not sustainable. There are more emissions with wind and solar than fossil fuels. You need fossil fuels to make wind turbines and solar panels. They have to be backed up by fossil fuels due to the lack of energy they provide. So there is not less fossil fuels being used with these solutions, but actually more. I dislike the waste, and if fossil fuels are the culprit, why use more. Without subsidies, wind and solar are not viable. Solar needs sun, we dont get a lot of that in winter and snow cover does not help. Turbines don't even operate in extreme cold due to freezing and are prone to fires.
Have you looked into the damage to the ecospheres both wind and solar cause? The wildlife they displace and kill, (the amount of jobs there are for disposing of the dead wildlife). The harm to the land where they put these "green" farms? Even the worms vacate the area. It decimates the soil. What about the disposal of the various "green" solutions when they stop functioning. Do you know they just get abandoned. Do you know the lithium batteries are very toxic, where are they being disposed. Do you know about the massive environmental and ethical implications of outsourcing our virtue to countries like China and Africa for the minerals involved. I do not feel comfortable causing more pollution in other countries at the same time causing more in our country with inadequate replacements so we can pretend we are saving the planet.
These alternative energy solutions cost more, use more taxpayer money, making people have to pay more, putting more people into poverty. Do you also worry about the taxpayer money going to the unsustainable green so called solutions. Or the jobs lost in the fossil fuel industry, more than 24000. It was also way more money lost from regulations on the oil industry. If you were actually worried about jobs or money. Of course you may have been worried about the loss in both industries, but it did not seem so.
Gas is the cleanest solution. (nuclear is another clean solution). Production in Canada is the most ethical in the world yet Canada sources our oil from foreign countries with less world standards than ours. That is bad economics and bad optics and bad environmental protection buying something we can produce ourself, when we can do it more clean, ethical and support local economy and jobs and help other countries as well with their economies and jobs and emission reductions. Countries around the world come to us for our technology and consultation. Fossil fuels can survive without subsidies and creates lots of jobs, and not government jobs.
Our fossil fuel industry could help reduce emissions by providing clean energy to countries that currently do not have good options. (China's alternatives are not good options). Thereby actually reducing emissions instead of the pretense. China opens coal fired electrical plants 2 or more a week. This coal they use has a high amount of sulfur.
Do you know what the oils sands are? It is a natural occurring event in the environment, look up what it was like in the 1950s, it is a natural oil spill. Even if we did not process it, we would have to clean it up. So why waste it. It is the most heavily monitored industrial site on the face of the planet.
As for the oil companies, look into what the land looks like before they go in and how they clean it up after on their own accord. It is quite beautiful and not polluted. The arctic grayling fish thrives there and they are very susceptible to pollution. The most innovation in reducing emissions in the fossil fuel industry has been done by the oil companies themselves. They quite often give to the communities in various ways, including clean up. Given the opportunity. When government regulations force companies to leave that opportunity to fulfil the contract is taken away.
Alternatively, the abandoned turbine and solar farms are not cleaned up by their companies or the government. The farmers who had to lease valuable farm land for the atrocities are left with the job of clean up and that was not part of their contract.
Incase you wonder, I have never worked for anyone in the fossil fuel or alternative energy industry. My research was not paid by them or government.
I am not opposed to more research into alternatives, but I am not for using them until they prove viable. What works in one part of the world may not work in another. It is not a one size fits all. Although gas does work world wide.
When researching do not look to media releases or government notices or science paid by government and actually read the full reports from independent scientists.
Alberta didn’t suddenly “go broke.” We were flushed just last year - posting an $8.3 billion surplus. Now, only twelve months later, the province is staring at a $5.2 billion deficit. So, what happened?
The short answer: Danielle (Spiny/Spendy) Smith happened.
The Numbers They Don’t Want You to See:
Fiscal Year Total Revenue Resource Revenue Total Spending Surplus/Deficit
(Source: Government of Alberta Budget 2025/EY Canada analysis)
In one year, nearly $10 billion vanished from Alberta’s balance sheet. Not because of a natural disaster or some “woke globalist plot” - but because of policy choices.
Smith built her budget on oil money instead of stability. When oil was high, she spent like it would stay that way forever. When it dipped, she blamed “global conditions.”
Non-renewable-resource revenue - the backbone of our provincial budget, fell $6.3 billion this year. And instead of saving the boom, Smith used it to prop up short-term popularity.
we did not suddenly go broke, it was a process, and it is Canada wide, it is from irresponsible spending, from ALL levels of government, over many years in ALL provinces. Some more than others. Some corruption involved at all levels as well. If Alberta did not have oil, we would have been "flushed" right down the drain a long time ago. As much as the feds promote anti colonialism, they have no problem committing it against the west. In fact that was their intention when they brought the west into confederation. It is probably too late to fix. It is the system that fails us.
I am not going to debate whether Smith is good or not, you hate all you want. It is your perogative. I am way beyond believing any government in our current system can fix this mess now or in future.
My thread was the climate narrative is wrong. With plenty of evidence proving it, I find it irritating that people still believe in the religion of climate change. Innovation in the energy industry is a good thing. Investing in failed technology only brings more waste in time and money and it puts people at risk. It does not matter who is the Premier when it happens.
I see that the bloc will stand with the lieberals come voting time on the budget. I think that Smith is as crazy as the rest when it comes to co2. This country is a dead country when it comes to economics and humanity. But that's the way it is under a communist regime. So Danielle come home, and I'll tell you again get your how to book out on independence.
Smith talks the right talk when it comes to climate and oil economy..but the concern is the backroom activity affecting freedom if choice for things like health care, digital ID, speech. Keep an eye on her. She is a globalist trained politician.
Climate change is not human caused. Not caused by CO2 either. A look at historical temperatures, even just the last 1500 years should clear up that fallacy.
Is your Science degree posted on your wall? Somehow I doubt you are an accredited scientist.

you cant phase out fossil fuels, too many things are made with it, including wind turbines and solar energy.

Bad laws exist all over the country and in all Provinces and Federally.
Federally there are no shortage of bad laws.
Provincially... Pick any given Province.
At least Smith wants to do something about those bad laws.
Federally .. They simply pile one bad law on top of another bad law and rinse/repeat.
Other Provinces... Silence.
Good on Smith..
The rest of the Premiers and certainly our failure of a PM ... A Pox upon you all.
This government will not change the laws that are killing our economy. The only way to change things is to change the government

When the oil and gas lobbyist speaks they are not to be believed. They are speaking industry lingo which like big tobacco was never based in truth.
Thank you premier for standing up for Alberta. Supporting jobs and prosperity. Net zero cannot happen, it simply is not possible!!
