NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh faced intense backlash after campaigning with the OnlyFans creator and taking photos with two supporters in fetish gear. OnlyFans is an online subscriber-based pornography platform.
Singh appeared alongside Wetz in a recent campaign video. Wetz has described herself as a "health and human rights influencer" in videos posted to Instagram earlier this week.
The content showed the NDP leader discussing his stance on Israel-Palestine with Wetz.
Wetz has posted anti-Israel advocacy in the past and promoted Singh’s call for a two way arms embargo on the country.
During their discussion, Wetz alleged that Israel does not respect international borders, to which Singh responded by pledging to recognize a Palestinian state and continue sending Canadian taxpayer dollars to Gaza.
Singh also recently posed for photos with supporters wearing fetish-style dog masks, raising further questions about the direction of his campaign.
It wasn’t until a TikTok video of Wetz comparing an Israeli politician’s comments to Adolf Hitler surfaced that the NDP distanced itself from Wetz.
Wetz made a TikTok post in September 2024 comparing an Israeli politician’s comments about Palestinian babies to Adolf Hitler’s rhetoric about Jewish babies.
In response, NDP campaign spokesperson Anne McGrath stated: “We disagree with the comparison that was made. Nothing should be compared to the Holocaust. Doing so minimizes the scale and horror of that genocide and disrespects the memory of the six million Jews and millions of others who were murdered.”
McGrath added that Wetz “will not be participating in future campaign events” and acknowledged the NDP is now “reviewing how we engage with online voices.”
The party also admitted they do not properly vet all influencers they engage with.
