Shots fired at U.S. Consulate in Toronto
Toronto police hunt for two suspects after shots were fired at the U.S. Consulate building early Tuesday morning in what authorities say could be a terror-related incident.
Two suspects are on the run after gunmen opened fire outside the U.S. Consulate building in downtown Toronto early Tuesday morning.
Police say two men stepped out of a white Honda CR-V on University Avenue and fired several shots at the heavily fortified building before fleeing the scene. Officers later found shell casings and damage to the exterior, but no injuries were reported despite staff being inside at the time.
The RCMP is now involved as investigators examine whether the shooting could be linked to a broader terror threat amid rising tensions tied to the conflict involving Iran.
Security expert Joe Varner joins Marc Patrone to break down what happened, whether Iranian sleeper cells could be operating in Canada, and why critics say governments have ignored growing warning signs.
