After rejecting an attempt to add “residential school denialism” to Bill C-9, the Combating Hate Act, the Senate passed the legislation with a single amendment adding “nooses” to the list of prohibited hate symbols.

Because of the amendment, Bill C-9 must return to the House of Commons for review before receiving royal assent and becoming law.
