Time to invoke the Notwithstanding Clause and pass laws that allow the wearing of a Remembrance Poppy in any court in the Province, up to and including the provincial appellate court and all federal courts. These are the people's courthouses and courtrooms, they are not the property or domain of the specific judges involved.
I would also compel any justice, who banned the poppy in their courtroom, to take a mandatory 6 month course on Canadian military history, involving ethics, honouring the veterans who served and those who died, and a historical films and documentaries section which featured films from the battlefields, cemeteries, prison camps, concentration camps, death camps, etc. Also featured would be interviews with veterans regarding their experiences. These courses would be 2 - 10 hour days per week, administered by members of the active military, veterans affairs, and the Royal Canadian Legion. Missing any more than parts of two separate days of these courses would result in that particular justice being permanently and irreversibly removed from the bench in that province and permanently banned from ever sitting on the bench in any courtroom in that province. Upon successfully completing the course the justice may return to their job with the admonition that any future attempt to ban, comment, or cast any aspersions against wearing the poppy in their courtroom would mean immediate dismissal from their post with no right to appeal the decision and a permanent ban against their performing any further judicial function in that province.
It's time to take the people's court back from the activist, self-important judiciary.
Disgusting attitude. My dad fought for our freedom plus lived with his PTSD & demons from a brutal war. So now it's not appropriate to acknowledge his & others sacrifices by wearing a poppy anywhere we want? Remembrance should be full month of Nov not one lousy day! If a Judge be it in Saskatchewan or any other province does not respect that our veterans have paid the ultimate price so he can enjoy the freedom and liberty that has been given to us all than he does not deserve the position of Judge and needs to be removed from that position immediately and that should be part of his swearing in ceremony.
