Saskatchewan led the country in job growth last month, according to Statistics Canada data highlighted by Premier Scott Moe.
The province gained 3,500 jobs in July 2025, a 0.6 per cent increase from the previous month.
The 0.6 per cent increase was the largest percentage gain in the country, while the entire nation has struggled with job growth.
Canada lost 51,000 full-time jobs last month.
Over the past year, employment in Saskatchewan rose by 17,600, also the highest in the country.
“While the number of people working in the rest of Canada is down, Saskatchewan created 3,500 new jobs in the past month and 17,600 new jobs in the past year,” Moe said on X.
“We also have the lowest unemployment rate in Canada at 5 per cent.”
Moe credited the province’s resilience despite international trade pressures. “In spite of the U.S. and Chinese tariffs, Saskatchewan’s response is working and Saskatchewan people are working,” he said.
Nationally, employment declined by 0.19 per cent in July, with significant job losses in British Columbia (16,300), Alberta (16,000) and Quebec (15,000). Saskatchewan’s growth was accompanied by smaller gains in Manitoba (2,100) and Newfoundland and Labrador (1,100).
Moe said his Saskatchewan Party government is “working hard to keep it that way” as the province continues to post the lowest unemployment rate in the country.
Moe’s government has also recently seen success in housing policy, with the province’s capital, Regina, becoming the most affordable city in Canada to buy a home.
