Rogan claims Trump helped Carney get elected and “ruined Canada”

Podcaster and comedian Joe Rogan, who once hosted U.S. President Donald Trump on his show during his campaign, now says that Trump “ruined Canada” by endorsing Prime Minister Mark Carney.

In a recent episode of his podcast, the comedian opined that Trump’s rhetoric about annexing Canada to become the 51st state “single-handedly ruined” the country.

“All we did is differ with them economically and Trump tried to turn them into a state,” joked Rogan, before doing a rendition of the U.S. president. “He said, ‘I called him Governor Trudeau. At first I was just joking, then a lot of people told me it was a good idea.’”

“I think that singlehandedly ruined Canada, that idea,” he added. According to Rogan, the Liberals were “on their way out” before Trump’s comments.

“They (Liberals) were f***ed, and then all of a sudden the whole country united because Trump tried to turn them into a state,” he said.

Fellow comedian and guest on the show, Konstantin Kisin, said that “(Conservative Leader Pierre) Poilievre’s got to be angry about that s*** man.”

“He’s got to be so mad,” responded Rogan. “He was logical and reasonable and everybody was like, ‘let’s try that for a while.’”

Another guest on the show, Francis Foster, likened Trump’s influence on Canadian politics to being the ultimate “c*** block” for Poilievre.

“Do you know what I mean? You’re in the bar, it’s about to happen with the girl … It’s going down. I’m so going to get laid. Then Trump pops up, whispers something in her ear and all of a sudden it’s f***ing over.”

Trump endorsed Prime Minister Mark Carney shortly after he won the Liberal leadership, and said he would “rather deal with a Liberal than a Conservative” in charge of Canada before the April election.

“I think it’s easier to deal actually with a Liberal, and maybe they’re going to win, but I don’t really care. It doesn’t matter to me at all,” Trump said during an interview in March.

Trump not only gave Carney his blessing, but had some choice words for Poilievre in the lead-up to the last general election as well, saying he was “stupidly no friend” of his.

“Pierre. I just don’t know. I don’t like what he’s saying about me. It’s just not positive about me,” he said in February, complaining that Poilievere’s “biggest problem is he’s not a MAGA guy, you know?”

“I mean, he’s really not a Trump guy at all,” he said.

Trump has since praised Carney as a ‘tough leader’ and a ‘good man,’ despite the fact that the two leaders have yet to reach a trade deal after months of turbulent negotiations.

However, there are ties between Carney’s former company, Brookfield and the Trump family.

In 2018, Brookfield agreed to lease a New York City property from Jared Kushner, U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law. The lease was for a 99-year, billion-dollar agreement, which saw the company forking over the full USD $1.1 billion upfront, instead of paying it off annually.

Kushner served as the White House senior advisor to Trump during the time of the Brookfield deal and also dealt with the administration’s relationship with the Middle East, visiting Qatar to discuss its blockade against the U.S., which was eventually lifted.

Brookfield’s second-largest stakeholder during this time was the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar, which helped to finance the billion-dollar deal.

The deal was brokered in 2018, before Carney became chair of Brookfield and at a time when Kushner’s family was in debt to repay USD $1.2 billion in mortgage payments by February 2019.

However, Carney still holds $6.8 million in Brookfield financial interests.
