The former NDP leader is reportedly in line for a top Crown corporation post despite no known tourism experience, drawing accusations of political patronage.
Former NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is reportedly being considered for a lucrative federal appointment leading Canada’s national tourism agency, fuelling accusations the Liberals are rewarding the man who helped keep Justin Trudeau’s minority government in power.
CTV News reports Singh is being considered as CEO of Destination Canada, the federal Crown corporation responsible for marketing Canada abroad. The position pays up to $350,000 annually.
The reported appointment is already drawing backlash, with one senior tourism industry source telling CTV News, “This is an insult, both to the industry and to the organization itself.”
A lawyer by training, Singh has no publicly reported tourism experience. He resigned as NDP leader after leading the party to its worst election result in history in 2025.
