Revolt against Keir Starmer as key defence figures resign
Defence Secretary John Healey resigns, triggering further departures and exposing growing fractures in Starmer's government over defence funding.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is facing renewed pressure after a series of resignations from senior defence officials exposed growing divisions within his government over military spending and national security priorities.
Defence Secretary John Healey resigned citing inadequate funding for the UK’s armed forces, triggering further departures from the Ministry of Defence.
In his resignation letter, Healey, a key Labour figure, delivered a pointed critique of the government’s Defence Investment Plan (DIP).
“Since then, you have been unable, and the Treasury has been unwilling, to commit the resources that the nation needs to defend the country at this time of rising threats.”
