Rempel Garner calls out Carney for lack of action after Alberta agreement
Conservative Immigration Critic Michelle Rempel Garner says Albertans are largely proud of being Canadian, but slammed Prime Minister Mark Carney for failing to act to dispel Albertan grievances.
Conservative Critic Michelle Rempel Garner blasted Prime Minister Mark Carney for having no shovels in the ground on important energy projects, and for his government making no moves on scrapping anti-energy policies, despite signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Alberta nearly a year ago.
During a press conference where she called on the government to amend the Criminal Code to end the practice of giving lenient sentences to criminals based on their immigration status, Rempel Garner promoted Alberta in a united Canada, while calling out Carney’s inaction on issues that matter to Albertans.
“It’s been really great to be in the community this summer doing door knocking. Stampede was very well attended…and it was a topic of discussion for sure,” Rempel Garner said in Ottawa Tuesday.
“I think where a lot of Albertans are at is that they’re very proud Canadians…you know Alberta’s spirit of progress and drive and entrepreneurialship and risk-taking, it’s some of the best parts of Canadian culture writ large, and we take a lot of pride in being Canadian.”
With the Alberta referendum on a question for the province to separate from Confederation just two months away, she said there’s cross-partisan support for Alberta remaining in Canada.
