A series of coordinated RCMP operations in April led to the recovery of stolen property tied to thefts across several southern Alberta communities, including Airdrie, Calgary, and Strathmore.
According to the Alberta District Crime Reduction Units working in partnership with Strathmore RCMP, a search warrant was executed in Rockyford on April 16 following a report of suspicious activity in the area.
RCMP say the operation resulted in the recovery of five stolen ATVs, three stolen firearms, two stolen trailers, a stolen car, and a range of other stolen items. Investigators linked the property to thefts to Southern Alberta communities of Caroline, Airdrie, Drumheller, Vulcan, Strathmore, and Calgary.
Kevin De Laurier, 50, was arrested and charged with three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, eleven counts of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of break and enter, and five counts of failing to comply with a release order.
He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 22 in Airdrie. Nicole Lewis, 42, was charged with three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm and five counts of possession of property obtained by crime. Lewis was released following a bail hearing and is set to appear in court on May 20 in Calgary.
Only three days later, on April 19, Brooks RCMP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle, triggering a second investigation.
That investigation led CRU to execute a second search warrant on April 21 in Aldersyde. During that search, police successfully recovered three stolen trailers, three stolen trucks, three stolen motorbikes, a stolen ATV, three stolen firearms, forged documents, and sixty-one other firearms.
In a brief pursuit that followed the investigation, the RCMP was able to arrest and apprehend Clayton Whaling, 44, of Foothills County. He was charged with eight counts of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of possession of a stolen firearm, one count of flight from police, one count of mischief, one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, three counts of failing to comply with a release order, one count of possession of ‘break-in-tools’, and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon. He remains in custody and will appear in court on May 30 in Okotoks.
Foothills County residents Allan Eroshinsky, 78, and Chad Eroshinsky were also charged. Each of them are facing five counts of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon.
Allan Eroshinsky was charged even further with an additional two counts of careless storage of a firearm, while Chad Eroshinsky faces one count of careless storage of a firearm. Both were released and are scheduled to appear in Okotoks court on May 30.
William Holub, 43, was charged in connection with the original Brooks investigation. He faces one count of flight from police, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, one count of break and enter, and one count of possession of break-in instruments.
Holub was released following a bail hearing and awaits a future court date in Brooks.
