Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating a possible sniper attack after a 44-year-old woman was murdered and multiple vehicles were fired upon while driving along Highway 39 near Weyburn.
Saskatchewan RCMP now say a second vehicle was struck by gunfire during the investigation of a suspicious death near Weyburn earlier this month.
Police say 44-year-old Tanya Myers died Sept. 12 while a passenger in a Ford Explorer on Highway 39. The RCMP major crimes unit is investigating.
On Sept. 13, investigators received a report from a member of the public who said they were driving behind the Ford Explorer around 8 p.m. the night Myers died.
The person told police they heard two “pops” but did not notice any damage until the following day, when a tire on their SUV went flat.
Forensic investigators later determined that a gunshot had damaged the tire. RCMP say the SUV was travelling a close distance behind the Explorer before passing it and continuing toward Weyburn.
The driver did not know the occupants of the Explorer and was unaware of the fatal incident at the time.
No injuries were reported, and police are withholding details about which tire was struck as part of the ongoing investigation.
In a public statement, Myers’ family described her as an energy healer and animal lover who cared for nine cats.
“We are asking the pubic to remain vigilant, such as farmers who may be working late in the field right now. Lock your vehicle doors and remove the keys,” the RCMP said in a statement.
