Quebec’s sweeping COVID-19 curfew violated fundamental Charter freedoms, but the government was still justified in imposing it, according to a new court ruling.
The Superior Court of Québec dismissed Stéphanie Pépin’s appeal after she was fined for driving to a peaceful anti-curfew protest in January 2021.
The court found the curfew violated Charter freedoms but ruled the infringements justified under Section 1.
Quebec was the only province in Canada to impose a province-wide COVID curfew.
