Punjabi-focused Hockey Night in Canada show cancelled after 18 years
Rogers Sports and Media’s Hockey Night in Canada Punjabi programming has been cancelled after 18 years of Punjabi-language hockey commentary in Canada.
After 18-years on the air, Hockey Night in Canada: Punjabi Edition has been cancelled.
The program, owned by Rogers Sports and Media, which could be watched on OMNI Television and Sportsnet, will no longer run.
The show, started by the CBC in 2008 to provide the Punjabi-speaking community with NHL coverage, provided a play-by-play analysis, commentary and intermission coverage in Punjabi.
Hockey Night in Canada: Punjabi announced the TV program’s cancellation on social media on Friday.
“A decision has been made that Hockey Night in Canada Punjabi will not be returning,” the post reads. “For 18 years, this show brought our community closer to the game we love. It shared the stories of South Asian players and families and created a space that was truly unique in Canadian sports. We are incredibly proud of what we built together.”
