Multiple charges of assault and assault with a weapon have been laid against two Edmonton-area daycare workers.
Dimpy Bawa, 32, faces two counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of assault. Shivani Shivani, 29, has also been charged with two counts of assault.
Parkland RCMP said the victims were between one and three years old.
According to multiple outlets, the same daycare facility was under investigation this March in relation to similar allegations.
At that time, RCMP said they were investigating what they described as “alleged assaults of four children at a daycare west of Edmonton.”
Parkland RCMP said the assaults happened at Little Stars Montessori Early Learning Centre in Spruce Grove on Feb. 19 and were reported between March 6 and March 12.
The RCMP added that there could be more than four victims and encouraged parents to have a “gentle but honest conversation with their kids.”
The province of Alberta, meanwhile, issued a probationary licence for Little Stars Montessori Early Learning Centre, citing safety concerns.
The province’s Ministry of Jobs, Economy and Trade, meanwhile, additionally removed Little Star’s ability to care for infants, affecting seven out of roughly 100 children who attended the centre.
“As a result of significant concerns regarding children’s safety, Jobs, Economy and Trade has put Little Stars Montessori Early Learning Centre on a probationary licence and temporarily removed their ability to care for infants,” said the province in a March news release following the initial allegations.
The RCMP said the two charged individuals were terminated from their positions at the daycare when the allegations first surfaced.
The accused are scheduled to appear in court Sept. 17.
Immigration is the cause. Poor little kids were subjected to god knows what. Close these places down.
This is the second daycare with assault charges in the Edmonton area. The names of the accused in both cases are South Asian also known as the Indian sub-continent & is inline with the excessive immigration levels from this area bought in by the Liberal government over the last 10 years! These women do not have the patience needed for caring for children or the elderly & if I was looking for daycare for my child I would be very hesitant to trust a daycare employing any of "these people". With technology nowadays it should be available for parents to be able to check on their children through an "app" on their phone connected to remote cameras at any time during the day for peace of mind. Recently my mother-in-law was being cared for by a "student nurse" from the Indian subcontinent who literally threw her around like a rag doll when she thought noone was watching, despite being obviously very fragile, in pain & in her 90's! This was witnessed by my sister-in-law who just happened to be a cleaner at the local hospital in Barrie & this student nurse didn't realize she was also her patient's daughter!
