Police in the Greater Toronto Area say they have recovered eight stolen vehicles worth about $800,000 after a series of violent carjackings earlier this year, and have charged six people in connection with the crimes.

The investigation, called Project Stratis, began after several armed carjackings were reported between Jan. 18 and Feb. 1 across Peel Region and nearby areas. Officers say the suspects targeted high-end vehicles, especially different models of Mercedes-Benz.
