Peel Regional Police have charged five individuals allegedly connected with an organized theft ring that targeted LCBO stores across Ontario.
In a press release on Wednesday, authorities reported that between August 2024 and last month, the group collectively stole from 50 LCBO stores.
The theft operation allegedly involved multiple suspects entering the store, providing a lookout and distraction, while accomplices stole boxes of expensive liquor.
To date, around $237,738.95 worth of products were reported stolen. Police have charged five individuals with theft over $5000 while three have received additional charges including breach of release orders.
Four of the five suspects were listed as not having a fixed address. The police press release did not specify why or whether the individuals were recent immigrants.
This follows a trend of other brazen thefts in recent years. g A recent report revealed that several suspects who were allegedly involved in the April 2023 Toronto Pearson airport gold heist were living freely abroad including one man who moved to India and another in Dubai.
Indian authorities mobilized within Mohali, India to raid the home of Simran Preet Panesar, a key suspect in the same gold heist, which is the largest gold heist in Canadian history.
Less than two weeks ago, Peel Police arrested 41-year-old Majinder Singh Bura for his alleged connection with the theft of trailers and freight containers worth around $1.5 million of stolen goods.
