Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre called for a host of new legislation and funding measures to tackle the drug crisis in Canada, including sending drug abusers to recovery programs after arrest, preventing drugs from going to prisons, and cutting funding to drug organizations if they can’t prove their “treatment” helps people recover from drug addiction.

During a press conference in Kitchener, Ontario on Friday, Poilievre laid out several policy changes he believes are needed to switch Canada’s drug recovery strategies from emphasizing drug consumption and harm reduction sites to helping Canadians treat and recover from their drug addictions.
