Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is attempting to reconcile trade differences between Ottawa and Washington by offering Canada’s wealth of natural resources to its southern neighbour.
Poilievre cited Canada’s vast oil reserves and critical minerals as a crucial necessity when it comes to “affordable energy,” particularly in times of crisis but also with inflation in general.
“By trading more with Canada, we can bring down your cost of living,” Poilievre told Bloomberg Television on Friday. “We can make sure you’re supplied for, God forbid, a future conflict, and we can ensure that the industrial base of our continent is restored. But we have to do it by working together.”
The Conservative leader has been making the rounds across a number of U.S. outlets to try and soften trade tensions between the two nations. He’s also visiting New York City on Friday to observe the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
