Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre travelled to New York City to promote tariff free trade between Canada and the United States, calling for “a stronger North America for our two separate countries.”
“Look, I think we feel a little bit wounded. We’re kind of confused as to how it is suddenly that Canada ended up in the crosshairs,” Poilievre said while appearing on CNBC’s Squawk Box. “Let’s knock down those tariffs.”
Poilievre is visiting the U.S. to promote free trade as well as to participate in ceremonies commemorating the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The Conservative leader urged the Trump administration and U.S. Congress to remove tariffs, adding that the trade war between Canada and the U.S. should have been “over yesterday.”
Poilievre said their removal would begin to restore trust between the two nations.
