While calling for a planned Liberal gas tax hike to be cancelled and instead extending gas tax relief for Canadians until next year’s Canada Day, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre repeated calls not to begin negotiating with the Islamic regime in Iran and to root out its agents still operating in Canada.
During a press conference in Vancouver on Sunday, Poilievre was asked to respond to the idea that “one man’s freedom fighter is another man’s terrorist” when discussing pro-Islamic Republic of Iran and anti-regime protests happening in the city simultaneously.
Poilievre responded by stating that the term “terrorist organization” has a legal definition and it doesn’t simply mean governments that individuals don’t like.
“We have a legal definition. It’s an organization that’s listed under the anti-terrorism law as a banned terrorist entity, and that is based on advice from CSIS and other law enforcement, so Hezbollah, the IRGC, these are terrorist organizations,” Poilievre said. “ One can have differing opinions about other foreign governments, but that does not make foreign governments that you don’t like to be considered a terrorist organizations.”
