Peter MacKay: Canada is risking its relationship with the U.S.
Former defence and foreign affairs minister Peter MacKay warns that Ottawa’s calls for a ceasefire in Iran could frustrate Washington ahead of trade talks and undermine ongoing US-Israeli strikes.
Canada’s government is sending mixed signals on Iran just days after US-Israel strikes targeted the country’s military leadership. Prime Minister Mark Carney initially supported the mission to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, but Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has called for a diplomatic solution, and Defence Minister David McGuinty has urged for a ceasefire.
Former defence and foreign affairs minister Peter MacKay joins Marc Patrone to break down Canada’s shifting stance and its impact on the country’s relationship with the United States. He cautions that stopping now could let Iran’s leadership regroup and stresses the importance of clear, consistent messaging from Ottawa.
MacKay also highlights the broader implications for international security, noting that the strikes have weakened Iran’s military capabilities and created an opportunity for democratic change inside the country.
Looking ahead, MacKay says Canada could play an important role in humanitarian and reconstruction efforts once hostilities end. He calls for supporting the Iranian people’s path toward stability and democracy while balancing Canada’s strategic relationship the United States, and protecting Canada’s economic and trade interests with its most important trading partner.

A ceasefire in iran? Has the Carney government lost its collective marbles? Do they have any notion what is going and why this war is happening?. How can they be so out of touch with reality, as to propose such balderdash? Or ...........is it that the liberal left was so upset with Carneys initial support for the strikes, that Carney had to over compensate as not to loose their support in the coming election?
From day one this government has done everything they can to frustrate and insult and degrade the US. It’s like they feel this will improve their chances at the ballet box in a quick election before they have to deal and get hammered by the US. They don’t care how bad the deal is as long as they can stay in power and the finish pushing in the WEF elite agenda.
