Peel police have charged 24-year-old Nahom Teklahaymanot with several human trafficking offences.
The charges stem from an investigation where police reportedly rescued a missing youth in Brampton who was allegedly a victim of sexual exploitation.
In a Tuesday media release, Peel Regional Police say Teklahaymanot was arrested September 10 outside a rental property in Brampton.
His arrest followed a tip from Longueuil police a day earlier about a missing girl believed trafficked for sex in Peel Region.
Investigators say they later located the youth at a second location. She has since been safely reunited with her family.
Teklahaymanot is charged with nine offences under the Criminal Code, including: trafficking a person under 18, procuring a person under 18, advertising sexual services, communicating for sexual services, exercising control, receiving benefits from trafficking and using an imitation firearm while committing an offence.
He has been held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
Peel police say the investigation remains active and they believe there may be additional victims in the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal and Longueuil.
In a statement, the service said its human trafficking unit remains “committed to protecting vulnerable individuals and combating human trafficking in all forms.”
The arrest of Teklahaymanot follows several other human trafficking-related arrests by Peel Regional Police in recent months.
Perhaps castration, chemical or otherwise would curtail these impulses?
