Country music icon and Albertan Paul Brandt was removed as a keynote speaker from the Greater Edmonton Teachers’ Association Convention. The cancellation was prompted by a social media post that featured his own music lyrics, which were cited as encouraging “independence.”

Brandt had been scheduled to speak about his organization, NotInMyCity, which is dedicated to raising “awareness and taking collective action to prevent and end human trafficking and sexual exploitation.”
