A man on parole in Toronto is facing a first-degree murder charge after police allege he carried out a “planned and deliberate” shooting that killed an international student.
I would love to see his rap sheet. The judicial system is corrupt. They will do everything possible not to charge an immigrant with a felony. This would mean deportation, and they can't let that happen.
Those who engineered and approved the parole of this miscreant have to be held culpable as accessories to any crimes the miscreant commits after release. Any person on probation or parole becomes a "ward of the state". After all those folks enabled this man to commit further crimes.
The Catch and release legal industry that farms violent criminals for profit has to be held culpable for the any crime their "wards" (people on probation or parole) commit.
They try to suppress the identity, citizen status and other crucial information I suppose because this would make the Immigration Dept. look bad. Instead it gets cloaked in kumbaya virtue signaling. Somewhere in our "government" the decision has been made to allow people with high criminal potentiality into Canada, in order to create maximum chaos, fear, anger, and lawyer's fees.
That's a well-used pathway and now people will be too frightened to use it. Trust has been seriously eroded.
The Parole Board needs a serious overhauling.
As for the murderer, jail time and deportation back to the land where he likely started his "career". Unless of course he will be diagnosed with mental illness, in which case the course of action will be some stabilization with meds, a good talking to, and release onto the streets.
We will never know since we must respect his privacy and confidentiality.
It looked like it was just shoddy reporting on Alex’s part that he didn’t say anything about the alleged perpetrator’s ethnicity. However, this would be an unfair judgment if one looks at an earlier January 8 report on the case by Catherine McDonald of Global News. It is preceded by an editorial note, stating: “A previous version of this story indicated a country of origin and citizenship for Babatunde Afuwape. Those references were included in error and have been removed.” A quick web-search indicated that Afuwape is an Ibo name, the Ibos being a tribe in southwestern Nigeria with adherents to the Christian and the Muslim faiths. From the wording of the note it would seem that Afuwape was Nigerian both by birth and citizenship, and he certainly was by ethnicity. Is there a law restricting news agencies from providing this information out of an over-the-top concern for political correctness, when it clearly might be of relevance to a criminal investigation? If so, this would surely be a subject of interest in itself.
Anyway, Catherine McDonald does provide a thorough detailing of Afuwape’s rap sheet, something that makes one wonder why he wasn’t still behind bars, where he wouldn’t have been able to murder his victim. It should have been part of Alex’s report too, but he is a lackadaisical journo. However, he is a young guy, so one can still hope he will learn to ply his trade better.
He is being protected by the Judicial system, so he can stay in Canada. With a criminal conviction, he must be deported. I would love to see his rap sheet.
Thank you for your reply, Melvyn. The story I referenced, dated January 8, had the title “Parole documents shed light on suspect charged with murder of U of T student.” Here is a link to it:
It provides details on his previous crimes and the lenient fashion in which the justice system chose to deal with them. McDonald writes: “The PBC [Patrol Board of Canada] report further states that around age 10, his parents separated and he would spend time at both their houses.” Yes, it is tough to have your parents break up at 10 years of age, but most people that happens to don’t commit multiple serous crimes by the time they are 28 years old, culminating in a first-degree murder.
The Toronto police ARRESTED a murderer!! Was the local Tim's out of coffee and donuts? Canada doesn't have a "justice" system, we have the Liberal Party of Canada and all those who vote for this evil in our nation. The guy will be on the streets in a few hours.

Another life ended due to this person out on bail. It’s time for catch and release to end and for those in charge of this appalling mess be charged!
Victims are no longer really regarded as victim anymore; just a dot in the case file. How awful that another family is mourning an unnecessary death!

Meanwhile over in India a family is in mourning.
Doesn't the parole board have any responsibilities for this tragedy?

Liberal catch and release at it's best resulting in murder

bring back the death sentence , public hanging , movies suck these days
Was it a racist-motivated murder? Let's have that uncovered and publicized. There may be much of this.
