More than 9,400 federal managers are now earning salaries of at least $150,000 a year, according to figures tabled in the House of Commons that underline the rapid growth of high-end public service pay.
The Cabinet, responding to an Inquiry of Ministry, reported that 9,455 federal executives and senior managers are compensated above the $150,000 threshold across the core public administration and separate agencies.
That includes 8,281 in the core public service and the remainder in Crown corporations and other agencies.
The data, covering the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2025, show a striking expansion of six-figure public-sector compensation.
Much of the increase is in separate agencies and Crown corporations where executives often operate outside the standard public service pay grid.
The records list dozens of organizations where managers have joined the $150,000-plus club, ranging from financial Crown corporations to cultural institutions.
Examples include the Bank of Canada, the Business Development Bank of Canada and the Canada Infrastructure Bank, all showing significant numbers of senior officials above the $150,000 line. Even smaller entities, such as the National Arts Centre, reported managers at that pay level.Fiscal watchdogs have already warned taxpayers over the increase in the bureaucracy under the Liberal government since 2016, adding approximately 99,000 additional employees in Ottawa, an 80 per cent increase.

Who monitors their competency
These are not necessarily outrageous salaries for "senior managers," what's outrageous are their job descriptions and how many of them there are.
