The Carney government may soon abandon an Arctic naval facility first announced nearly 20 years ago, citing high operating costs and claiming it is no longer needed.

Two government sources told the Globe and Mail that Prime Minister Mark Carney plans to shut down the Nanisivik Naval Facility on northern Baffin Island, despite the Department of National Defence spending $107.6 million to build it.
