Ottawa procures $2.6B in long-range missiles from U.S. supplier
The agreement to buy 26 of the long-range missile systems was initially completed in January through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program.
Ottawa is moving ahead with plans to procure more than two dozen M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems from U.S. defence giant Lockheed Martin in a $2.6-billion deal to arm the Canadian military.
“This capability marks a major step forward in modernizing the Canadian Army. High Mobility Artillery Rocket System will give the Army a mobile, long-range precision strike capability that can be deployed across Canada, including the Arctic, and abroad using existing Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft,” said Lieutenant-General Michael Wright on Tuesday.
