Ottawa boots “$9 million man” Tom Clark from New York post
Clark’s tenure became a political flashpoint, with Liberal MPs defending him while Conservatives blasted his spending amid Canada’s affordability crisis.
Ottawa shuffled two of its top U.S. diplomatic posts this week, replacing its New York consul general and naming a former Liberal cabinet minister to Los Angeles, days after it emerged that 25 Global Affairs employees were fired over serious misconduct.
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand announced four U.S. appointments on Jul. 14, with just one career diplomat.
Former broadcaster Tom Clark will be replaced in New York by oil and gas executive Susannah Pierce, while former Liberal cabinet minister Kamal Khera was named consul general in Los Angeles after losing her seat in 2025.
