Ottawa adds new school buses so kids don’t have to walk near open drug use sites

Dozens of Ottawa students will no longer be forced to walk through dangerous “community hazard zones” near drug consumption sites, thanks to a new decision by the school bus authority.

Starting March 9, dozens of Ottawa students will no longer be forced to walk through dangerous “community hazard zones” near drug consumption sites, thanks to a new decision by the school bus authority.

The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority (OSTA) has granted busing access to approximately 60 downtown elementary students. The authority recognized that their walking routes traverse areas with drug use and public safety concerns related to nearby social services.
