WHY???

Well it's called Supply Management.

They decided at one point who got to lead the Federal Conservatives.

They managed to get a piece of legislation past Parliament with pretty much if not total unanimous consent protecting their control and monopoly from even being mentioned in bargaining and negotiations with anybody but primarily the Americans.

They are the tail that appears to wag the dog of both the Liberal and Conservative Parties.

This while they sock it to Canadian consumers 24/7/365 mostly to the benefit of Quebec with a bit to OntArWeOwe.

This is why consumers are paying and they have no say in the matter what-so-ever.

Sharon Hart's avatar

Please! The Liberal government has had a majority for enough years to change the Supply management issues. Wanting to dump this on conservatives is missing the issue. If things needed change then the Liberals should have done it and still could. However their agenda is tyranny, control of what we think, read, and say. It is the WEF agenda.

William Stewart's avatar

Sorry....

All Parties ....

Need proof....???

One of the Fraud Carney's first pieces of legislation was to protect Supply Management from EVERYTHING...

Now Legislation passed by UNANIMOUS CONSENT..... ALL PARTIES!!!!!

AND QUICKLY thru the readings, Parliament and The Senate.. Very quickly.

The Conservatives could have resisted... NOT A PEEP... NOT A SINGLE ONE.

Of course the Liberals could have... but so could have Harper and he did not touch that either even though, as I recall, he was asked to do so and refused.

So there you go...

All Parties complicit but only in your face blatant interference when Scheer was elected as leader of the Conservatives a few years ago.

Get government out of the economy . period! End of discussion!

Are dairy farmers voting liberal? At least they are getting a good price. Only problem is it`s the taxpayer paying twice for milk.

Jessie James's avatar

Aside from giving your ,money away to Illegal Immigrants, what else would they do with YOUR money after voting themselves paycheques that are so over inflated their banks are running out of room to stuff it in!

gordon Ballard's avatar

This is the reality of supply management and intense corporate lobbying, it is disgusting that our elected leaders bow down to this type of thing, they just don't care what taxpayers think, and one has to suspect that there is something in it for the politicians, because so far this has continued for many years!

There is not a single day where we as citizens don’t hear some bat shit crazy policy that hurts WE TYE TAX PAYERS!!!

It’s stunning that our country doesn’t have an actual neutral body that oversees government policies!!!

Charkate's avatar

And milk prices continue to rise, and rise, and rise, along with every other anything that requires money.

Derek Holshorst's avatar

I don't begrudge the farmer a fair price our milk is priced reasonable compared to US milk. The farmer get it sucked to them by the equipment manufacturing the likes of John Deere and other big farm machinery manufacturing.

The fertilizer has gone way up, the cows need to eat so you need to grow grass and corn, maybe even beets to keep the bovine population happy and then don't forget the supplements that they have to feed them, than vet bills the expense is end less.

Nope leave our farmers be.

Mert Taylor's avatar

I don't know where you are getting your statistics from but I have noticed over the last 15-20 years dairy products are consistently cheaper in the US than they are here having lived on the US/CAN border for quite a few years and having relatives from the US and spending winters south of the border, dairies in the US apparently can prosper without government intervention, and to be honest the american cheese and ice cream is far superior, having worked for the federal government for 40+ years I am here to verify that private enterprise can do a much better job without government intervention. If I need government support to be viable maybe I shouldn't be in business!!

Tatanka's avatar

Small dairy farmers in the US hang their hat up in droves, they can't compete with the big boys any longer. Walmart is now operating their own huge dairy farm to supply their stores.

Sharon Hart's avatar

All that may be fine here in Canada if our economy had improved by our PM like Trump has improved the American economy, but where are the jobs? Where are all the Liberal PM's many projects that PM Carney promised that would feed our economy? Can't live on promises. They won't fill empty stomachs.

What kind of additives eg. Bovaer?😬 another destructive policy coming soon!

Christine T.'s avatar

It's not mandated but some farmers are using this now. We don't know how many. This is from another article by Mr. Charlebois:

"Yet we still lack a clear picture of what is happening in Canada. While any dairy or beef producer can use Bovaer today, we do not know how many actually are. If we are serious about measuring whether it reduces emissions or creates risks, we need to find out how many farmers are actually using it, monitor animal-health outcomes and understand real-world performance across diverse production systems. Canada can’t rely solely on company press releases or scattered anecdotes to judge a tool with national impact."

It's been paused over in Denmark due to the farmers concerns. Mr. Charlebois says elsewhere that the studies showed methane reduction but we would need multiple studies to show this over many years, while monitoring the animals health AND studying if there are any effects on the cows milk that would affect our health by drinking it.

Marg's avatar

Well I can inform you that cows are dying in Denmark!

Kinda like the covid shots … do the research after the bad shows itself in death.

Of course it’s going to create risks.. how would you feel if you couldn’t fart!

INSANE!!

The focus should be tackeling the BS coming out of Ottawa!

Rather than climate change how about government change.

Debbity's avatar

Are politicians on both sides reluctant to address this issue because they all need to curry votes with Quebec to get elected? Is it all about what's good for them, not what's good for us?

How about “non-existent”????

Thank you Mr. Fox for having the courage step up and show Canadians the hard truth behind the shameful reality of dairy farmers exploiting Canadians. Dairy farmers fear having to compete. They make millions on the back of Canadians struggling to make ends meet. The dairy cartel and corrupt politicians work in secrecy to screw Canadians. Elbows up my ass. At least the Americans are trying to help Canadian consumers by ending the punitive supply management.

Call it what it is, communism. Welcome to the third world Canazuela.

Sharon Hart's avatar

You are 100% right. Isn't that PM Trudeau's RESET plan for Canada? PM Carney's too?

{Logan} Untitled's avatar

Brave of Fox to do this. But in compensation to the subject of this subsidy, at least the farmer is being productive to nation. Where as how many billion $ a year do we dole out to the indians, and there is no productivity at all. It's all loss. Mind you I'm not supporting this dairy subsidy, just throwing out a little prospective there.

Muriel West's avatar

The truth will set you free... Just one farmer wants to let you know what's really happening. The truth has been told and Quebec is holding the big stick in order to supply the votes for the Liberals.

Mert Taylor's avatar

absolutely! Quebec is "milking the system" excuse the pun! American dairy producers are not subsidized are making a good living producing a superior product (cheese and ice cream) for less money to the consumer! Only in Canada would we support an industry that couldn't survive on its own!

{Logan} Untitled's avatar

I guess that's why they never separated, years ago. But if AB. and Sask. pull out they would soon have to decide where they are going to get their bread, butter, and beans from.

Louise's avatar

It’s refreshing to see someone is brave enough to speak up with the Truth!

RobertM's avatar

Sylvain misses the most obvious issue with the dairy cartel, because taxpayers are paying to keep the whole scam going mainly for the country of Queebec milk, butter & cheese should be one of a families cheapest commodities not the most expensive. Families should be able to go to the dairy case and take home quality products for their young not walk away because butter is $7 a pound most of it subsidized by the same family.

Allby's avatar

You will find certain elites well invested in it and controlling it it always vote down to money

Tatanka's avatar

I have said this already over 25 years ago.

Quota should have never been allowed to become a tradable commodity. It only benefits the established producer but is a big detriment to an aspiring producer.

It was the only reason for me not to become a dairy farmer. I did not want to become a lifelong slave of a bank.
