I'm a resident of Mexico and live there part-time. I've been studying Spanish for two years and when I'm there I respect the people, their culture, their religion (even though I'm not religious) and I don't make demands. It's on me to adapt to Mexico, not the other way around. When members of my family came here in the late 19th and early 20th centuries there were no handouts and it was understood that assimilation was expected.

I don't disagree and that's why I have permanent residency in Mexico and am in Panama getting another residency. Our ties to Canada would be very difficult to unwind but we are diversifying our assets and have an offshore bank account as part of getting our residency in Panama and in case we need to move money out of Canada quickly.
There is some hope for Alberta but I don't think there are enough people in Alberta (yet) who will vote for independence. Canada is a country in serious decline and, as you say, might be dead already. I'm glad I have options.
For now we're maintaining our residency in Canada but spending the winters in warmer climes. Our adult children and my mother are keeping us in Canada for the majority of the year, but if things become untenable we have other options.
It depends on your age and resources. Some countries offer temporary residency with lower proof of funds requirements; those residencies can convert to permanent over time with no further proof of financial means. Others offer "pensionado" residencies based on pension income. And many countries don't require that you actually move there. It's worth exploring for those wanting a Plan B.

Agree, sad what Canada has become, lived here all my life, grew up next door to immigrants and even though we had diversely different cultures, we got along, we would show them something from the Canadian culture and they would show us things from their culture.
