Sounds to me that there is more harm produced than reduced.

Why is it that all these bleeding heart Counsellors and government officials never have these " harm reducing facilities" in their own neighbourhood. If they are so fucking concerned about the wellbeing of these drug and sex deprived miscreants they should be living next door to them no?

Simon: The ideologically-driven are amazingly resistant to facing - let alone acknowledging - the results of their destructive policies. As long as they (usually well-paid) are physically/geographically distanced from the sites of their 'humanitarian policies', they can comfortably carry on in their virtue-signaling bubbles.

The Casey House operation is not only an abomination, it defiles what appears to be an historic building...once elegant and beautiful. Destined, no doubt, for destruction after years of abuse by its current owners.

The same people who cut mental health facilities and just moved the problem out into the sidewalks will never solve anything.

The goal of Harm Reduction is to Reduce Harm. (or at least it should be)

True Harm Reduction is focused on keeping people alive until they can make better choices. Better choices is a complex idea. Fundamentally, this is about having a reason to live.

A reason to live, is having things that you as a person value more than escaping the pain of existance. For most people this is "relationship" with family and friends and being part of a community. It is also about having meaningfull work that makes the individual believe that being sober, and being productive makes the world a better place.

In other words, the narcissistic existance being promoted in our culture leads to addiction, because it provides little of value. 12 Step programs work, because of thier focus on service, while also having the person be honest about the negative impact that addictive behavior of the individual has on other people.

Well stated.

Still, these kind of living conditions are pure insanity in Canada, politicians and bureaucrats at all levels of government are impotent to implement responsible support for humanity.

The homeless, mentally ill, and substance addicted are in every town and city in Canada. The MSM has ignored the growing problem of Canadian economic refugee camps.

There is an elephant in the room and it is the failure of the Canadian government to keep Canada's economy strong

All new and existing HARM REDUCTION facilities should be moved into the communities of the RULING CLASSES that insist they benefit society. END OF PROBLEM!

I applaud those citizens who still want to fight for their neighbourhood while government officials with their high salary just pass the buck and basically doing nothing.

The streets of every large city in this country have turned into a sewer of drug addiction and crime. Even in smaller cities like Kelowna, a city in the south Okanagan, there is a tent city nearly a kilometre long, along a stretch of land along the old railway property. It is a disgusting filthy mess. Much of this is caused by the NDP provincial government's decriminalization of hard drugs, a completely idiotic solution by the NDP health ministry and sanctioned by the Federal Liberals under Trudope. The government's pandering of the drug addicted with Harm Reduction policies has not worked, and it is time for some serious changes like mandatory drug rehabilitation policies because nothing else has worked and this entire issue is a to all levels of government. Much of all crime and mostly gun crime is a result of our massive drug problem in this country. Donald Trump is correct about this; fentanyl is a major problem in this country and it is coming into the country through the port of Vancouver and no one is doing anything about it. Last winter a massive heavily armed fentanyl factory was found near the small town of Falkland, out in the countryside. We needed to elect both Provincial and Federal Conservative governments because it is Liberals and the NDP who have allowed this to become the major, out of control, issue it is today.

Let’s lay this at the feet of the Liberal government under Trudeau who are solely to blame for decriminalizing drugs & enabling the turnstile

As one who lived in Toronto (Scarborough) for many years it is deeply distressing how the so-called "do-gooders" have made an industry out of a horrible problem. Their actions have harmed more than they have helped. Addictions to substances are self induced, sadly, addictions may be conquered only by the addict, however long it takes. Most important that those who struggle and succeed in conquering their problems themselves will have their self esteem restored and change their lives for the better. Suppliers of these kits as focused on in the article deserve no thanks at all, and it is obvious that they help only in the destruction of the neighborhood they are in. Just who are they helping??

Behavioral homelessness is a huge blind spot to our politicians. If they really care about harm reduction, then they must keep the people being supported in the use of the illicit drugs locked up and away from the public until they are no longer high. That would be supervision, and it would reduce a lot of harm. However, I agree with a previous comment that the 12-step program is effective and supervised consumption sites are not at all effective in reducing drug use.

Low budget MAID program. The people who defend this are either stupid or want to destroy families by helping people self destruct.

Billybob: "Low budget"? Afraid not. These harm reduction programs constitute an ideological industry, staffed and overseen by an army of addiction enablers. The cost to taxpayers - one way or another - is staggering. Long-drawn-out 'lives' of depletion and degradation for the 'clients' the virtue-signalers are maintaining in their sordid worlds. The neighborhoods contaminated and endangered by the presence of these facilities? Of little consequence to those who profit from the addictions industry.

It would appear that a homeless person has elected domicile in the backyard of our building. Bedding is being left there all day while the owner of it is God knows where. I complained to the landlord saying that I didn't feel safe in my building anymore and he told me to contact the police. I said you expect me to solve this problem? They replied that they were aware of the problem and they were going to look after it. These are the same people who told me I had nothing to worry about when I complained about the main door not closing properly. Fortunately they fixed that after my insistence.

I don’t understand how you can call harm reduction a goal to help, when the very substance that is provided is killing them. Maybe removing the vending machine might be a start.

This not anything new. What it is, is an indictment on how Justin Trudeau, JugHead Singh, the Liberal and NDP parties have shit all over Canada and Canadians since the day Trudope was first elected.

It is very disturbing that those who choose to live a life that is unproductive and destructive or a life that is beyond normal, they always expect the rest of society to bow to their every whim and are offended when we don't. Who is standing up for those of us who work hard and try to live a better life? We seem to always be expected to go along with them and give up our own standards.

What first put the flea in my ear about this is that someone had used the landing of the back staircase as a bathroom. For the brown stuff. As a result of this I no longer use the back staircase even though it's a lot more practical for me. At this stage I just don't want to know. We've also had some vandalism, the steel picnic tables provided for the tenants have been destroyed. Another reason to stay away from the backyard...
