At long last some of the key Columbia university anti-Israel agitators and the private university itself are getting their just desserts.
Two weeks ago President Donald Trump cancelled $400-M in grants and contracts to Columbia for festering Jew hatred on campus and for failing to protect its Jewish students.
Subsequent to that, the Trump administration arrested and detained Mahmoud Khalil, an activist who reportedly served as a lead negotiator for the Gaza solidarity encampment at Columbia.
He is being held at an ICE detention center in Central Louisiana while activists fight his deportation.
While many do-gooders and activists try to paint him as a victim who was simply engaging in free speech and he has labelled himself a “political prisoner” targeted for his political beliefs, reports say he had an intense hatred for the Jewish state and carried a laptop that sported a sticker completely blacking out Israel.
A few days ago Trump’s immigration authorities arrested a second activist — Leqaa Korda — who participated in pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia and who had overstayed her student visa, terminated in 2022 because she didn’t attend college classes.
A third woman, Ranjani Srinivasani, a non-binary PhD student at Columbia fled to Canada a few days ago after having her student visa revoked on March 5.
Her whereabouts are unknown, which raises a whole other set of concerns about how easy it is for terrorist sympathizers to get into Canada.
Columbia University has also been told by the Trump government to agree to limit anti-Semitic protests, ban masks and give police the power to make arrests to get its funding back.
That’s what I call strong medicine to deal with the epidemic of Jew hatred in the United States.
Meanwhile, in Canada, our acting Prime Minister Mark Carney (Justin Trudeau 2.0) just gave $100-million to rebuild Gaza on the eve of an election.
Carney and his Trudeau-esque team have made it clear his sympathies are not with the Jews and that they know Muslim voters in Canada resoundingly outweigh Jewish voters.
Never mind principles or doing what’s right.
In my own city of Toronto, Muslims continue to block downtown streets with their prayer-fests, a clear intimidation tactic to show Jews and other westerners who is boss. As has been regularly the case, the police play right into their hands.
They acted as babysitters for the protesters and allowed the terrorist sympathizers to block traffic at the most recent vigil this past week.
No doubt that has something to do with what is said to be a growing Islamisation on the Toronto police force evidenced by a podcast between two Muslim officers exposed last week.
In it, two officers, Farhan Ali and Haroon Siddiqui, talk quite openly about the number of officers interested in exploring Islam since the atrocities in Israel of Oct. 7/23.
They also suggest that anyone who dares criticize the anti-Israel protests on the streets of Toronto is Islamophobic.
After considerable outrage from my own community and its allies, the podcast was pulled down.
But rest assured nothing more will happen.
Which brings me to today’s Al Quds hatefest, an annual illegal march on the streets of downtown Toronto during which protesters, many of them bussed in from the GTA and all with professional signs, call for the eradication of Israel and other lovely Jew-hating slogans.
In this tweet, it is being celebrated by an activist well known for his incessant Jew hatred:
I covered the hatefest for years while a columnist at the Toronto Sun. Each year the police have promised to monitor the situation for hate against the Jews. They are vowing to do so again this year.
Police chief Myron Demkiw and his officers must think we’re fools. Each year they claim there is no hate and do nothing. They claim it’s a free speech issue. It’s not but they don’t want to break a sweat. They’d rather hang my community out to dry.
It’s little wonder the Jew-haters have been emboldened over the past 17 months. Besides, if the police can’t manage what’s unfolded on the streets week after week, prayerfests included, how can we believe they will do anything today.
Which brings me back to Trump’s edicts about Columbia and his push to deport terrorist sympathizers who have embedded themselves in the university establishment.
He’s making a very strong statement with his actions. They have no right to come to America and preach hate, certainly not on a student visa. We have the very same problems in Canada. But unfortunately, our politicians are weak and easily manipulated by false claims of Islamophobia.
If you and I blocked streets we'd be charged by the police.
Good article Sue Ann, only your closing statement is incrrect. The lieberal government is not manipulated, they are the ones doing the manipulation. They are using the moslims for voting purposes. Where do think these poll results arecoming from. Mostly from these crowds of illegals. And Trump is doing the right thing. But the turds in charge here of course will do the opposite.
