OP-ED: Mark Carney betrayed Canada’s Jews by backing Hamas

You’ve really lost the plot when you have a terrorist entity that murdered 1,200 Israelis in cold blood 19 months ago thanking you for threatening the only democratic country in the Mideast.
But alas this is the upside down world in which we find ourselves after nine years of Liberal chaos under Justin Trudeau and now under former banker and Trudeau’s confidant Mark Carney.
I knew Carney would be terrible for Canadian Jews, although I suspect he will end up being equally horrible for Canadians in general.
And I’m not sure whether to be incensed with the ill-informed, entitled Boomers or the Liberal Jews who voted for him, thinking he’d restore Canada to the once world-class status we’d seen under former Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Still how do we feel now that after a less than a month in office our Prime Minister has issued a statement with Britain’s Prime Minister Keir Sturmer and French President Emmanuel Macron damning Israel for allegedly allowing “human suffering in Gaza” and denying basic humanitarian assistance to Gazans?
This has come hot on the heels of his Cabinet picks, which included a foreign minister Anita Anand who called out Israel for the same thing one day after being sworn in —but didn’t even know that Palestine isn’t a real country.
Then there’s his new immigration minister, Lena Diab, a Lebanese woman who voted against sending arms to Israel.
The Three Amigos — Sturmer, Carney and Macron — also called for an immediate ceasefire and said they will continue to work with the Palestinian Authority to recognize a Palestinian state.
There was limited mention of Oct. 7 or that Israeli hostages are still being held captive in Gaza. They ignored the fact that Hamas has repeatedly broken ceasefire agreements since that horrible day or that Hamas steals the food for its soldiers and keeps the Palestinians in a subjugated state to garner worldwide sympathy.
Of course. That wouldn’t fit with their narrative.
The Hamas terrorists thanked Carney, along with his European pals, for taking a “step in the right direction.”
Why wouldn’t they? They have these foolish weak political figures—who believe themselves to be far more accomplished than they are — right where they want them.
We do know that Carney likes to rub shoulders with the so-called European elite.
But it did not escape my attention that the very countries represented in this anti-Israel missive are already rife with Islamist Jew haters who are treated with kid gloves.
In other words, they’ve succumbed to terrorism. Canada is well on its way.
But never mind.
I suspect cognitive dissonance will set in and those who voted for Carney (particularly the Jews) will refuse to acknowledge that he meant what he said when during the campaign he let it slip during the campaign he believes there’s been a genocide in Gaza
Carney may not be as bright or insightful as he thinks he is no doubt opportunistic.
His efforts are almost certain to shore up support for the Liberals so they will be free to wreak havoc on Canada for another four years.
Or as Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said on X, offering up a Palestinian state is like giving Hamas a reward for the atrocities of Oct. 7:
Carney certainly has no interest in the long view.
It only starts with the Jews.
That notwithstanding, Hamas leaders were on to something when they said Carney took a “step in the right direction” by calling out Israel.
What our PM fails to understand or perhaps couldn’t care less about is that this talk only enables the aggressive Islamist extremists and the Jew-hatred we see on our streets.
I knew Carney would do nothing to lower the temperature.
On election night in Ottawa, my heart sank — not just because I knew he’d be a more dangerous version of Trudeau — but I realised Jews in my home province of Ontario have no one protecting us.
We’ll no doubt see it play out this Sunday at Toronto’s Walk with Israel. Hamas sympathizers have already made it clear they plan to disrupt the walk.
This could have been avoided if someone showed an ounce of leadership.
It’s sad to think not one politician has a moral compass.
Carney has told us loud and clear what he thinks.
Premier Doug Ford has been a bust for the past 19 months, only caring about the numbers game (that is, the Jewish community is vastly outnumbered by Muslims and that’s where the votes are).
Our mayor Olivia Chow, a Marxist, has told us repeatedly by her actions that she doesn’t much like the Jewish community.
But even worse, I suspect she’s given her thin-skinned foot soldier — the extremely weak police Chief Myron Demkiw — to stand down at every single protest on the streets of Toronto and to allow the terrorist sympathizers (covered in their shmattas) to bully, harass, threaten and try to intimidate Toronto’s Jews.
The few Jews who do answer back or engage in a counter-protest are arrested.
It is absolutely obscene what Demkiw and Chow have permitted.
If Toronto didn’t have such a leftist council, I suspect he would have been fired months ago
This relentless Jew-hatred could have been tempered long ago if someone in charge had shown even an ounce of leadership.
But they didn’t and now it’s out of control.
Those who voted for Carney will have to live with their choice.
Unfortunately, so will those of us who saw the writing on the wall.
Thanks again for another informative post. I believe that Mark Carney didn't become PM because he cares about Canadians. He didn't even live here until he decided to run. It seems that he thinks of himself more as a European. This is about the prestige, power and authority that he gains from this. Not to mention how financially he and his elitist friends will benefit from the policies he puts in place. Now that he is PM, where is the information about his assets?
I don't think he wants to bother himself with what's happening to real Canadians or dealing with the opposition in parliament. He did fool a lot of people who were so easily manipulated and I agree, Sue-Ann, that those who voted for him will have to live with the harm that is continuing and forthcoming to Canadian citizens.
Excellent article, Sue Ann Levy, however, also so sad. There is only one solution that I can think of and that is that those so-called leaders who are supporting Hamas, should be sent to fight along with them. Perhaps then they may rethink their decisions. Wars are not started by ordinary citizens, they are started by politicians.
