I really have no idea why Canadians put up with this. Courts or no courts, a specific ethnic group in Canada is not deserving of grants of great swaths of land just because they said so. Do we need another trucker convoy?

Hold my beer, I'm at Dodge right now ordering my truck. Meet you there!

Don's avatar

yes..but with tanks this time..

Will those 3000+ members actually see any of this money or will it go to the chief as we've seen with many tribes in the west? Moose on the Loose has covered this numerous times. The living conditions for those on the reserves are not improved after the payouts so where is the money going? I also think that there are corrupt lawyers trying to take advantage and get rich here. Another big problem is that these Indigenous tribes aren't giving an account to the government of where this money goes.

Lise's avatar

And the reason for the Tribes' chiefs not providing ANY required account of the allocation of the funds is because, drum roll please, Little Trudeau put it into law that they just didn't have to, cuz, I mean, stuff "balances itself" right? LOL. What a sh*t show. Give it another year; the Liberals will find a way to blame the entire loss of European culture in this country on Trump, just like everything else.

As usual, this is a money-grabbing scheme by international entities because you know damn well only lawyers profit, and the legal industry doesn't exist without men who do weird rituals.

And it's a mockery of all the tax-payers who actually believed the Canadian government has their back. I never want to hear another land acknowledgement again.

On the other hand, maybe I can claim some farmland in Europe.

Deborah Thompson's avatar

Exactly! My great-grandfather went fishing in Sweden - so my family must be able to head over there and claim our traditional lands as our own…..

The whole concept of Indians owning land is a joke as they were nomads that moved all over the place depending on the season, they never owned anything, enough of this BS and time Canadians put a stop to this nonsense.

Don's avatar

🎯 I'm all for it, Ron..but remember..the CCP infested the already corrupted Native Councils DECADES ago..including the ones in the west..and now the Natives have their own energy infrastructures in the Alberta Oilsands..and Critical Minerals..THAT is how deeply embedded China has become..

Amanda Grant's avatar

Yeah exactly. Or do they suddenly have maps and records of which regions were occupied and owned by specific bands or tribes?

William Stewart's avatar

I understand there is a condemned residence on Sussex Dr. available for Indigenous occupancy.

They should be right at home with the rats who apparently infest that residence.

Then again they should be right at home with the rats is infest Parliament Hill if they decide to occupy that location as well.

🎯..There's been constuction ongoing at parliament since befote covid..and the've got a HUGE, deep pit along the front of there..also, there've been rumours of a huge tunnel built running under the Ottawa river into Gatenau.?? Damn conspiracy theorists!! (although,we HAVE a pretty good batting average with those "theories" of the last 20 plus years, don't we??

William Stewart's avatar

Probably Don.

Nothing about the corrupt City of Ottawa surprises me at all.

And when it comes to what you state would think that might indeed be a corrupt "theory".

The question is "to what purpose"???

A lot of Ottawa's Bureau-rats work in Gatenau.

To keep them away from bad weather?

To keep their comings and goings secret?

Is there more than simply "A Tunnel"?

etc.. etc.. etc.. etc..

Don's avatar

Exactly..

Indigenous people who never knew how to write or read, take our education and use it against us. Knowing the federal liberals, they will probably give them the 5 billion.

Trudy Paul's avatar

I would ask if the indigenous will repay the Canadian government for improvements to the land. Only in Canada.

Ruth Bard's avatar

This is one "land claim" where I'm thinking: let them have it, and welcome. Kick the feds out and see how they like being on the receiving end for a change.

Alan Fraser's avatar

I thought that there was a statute of limitations with about a 7 (seven) year time span. Why on earth are the courts even concidering these frivolous claims?

Don's avatar

CCP....believe it..

Eva Smillie's avatar

I wonder how much worse our country would be off with Indigenous leadership. Get rid of the Liberals, it can't get any worse with the Natives on Parliament Hill .. maybe Trump could then send in a handful of Air Cadets & invade Canada - 51st State, baby. Id love to see these Chiefs deal with Trump, really.

Worth a watch of this two minutes by an Iranian on the danger of Muslims:

>Christianity is a personal relationship with God...Islam is Sharia law. Religion and state, which is not even compatible with the American thing...

Indian land claims are crap and should be treated as such.

In a kind of perverted way, I'd love it if the FN tribe succeeded with the courts to take over control of Ottawa. It would be karmic justice to prove to the country what unbelievable morons run the Liberal party. For years and years Liberal gov'ts have catered to FN complaints, as long as it regarded rural areas. But now, it's the beating heart of urban Canada under siege. The monster the Libs have created is now going to devour its creator.

lol..👍..and our new national anthem wud be Allanis Morissett singing "Ironic"...🤣

Another example of the "entitled ones" hands out with no accountability of how any funds have and will be used. Time to oust the free loaders and either be Canadian or shut up

Ed Sager's avatar

Who in their right mind would want that cesspool?

Donald/Raelene Bell's avatar

What would the land be valued at in 1760? How many individuals would have been hunting and gathering back then if their total population is now under 4000 people? They are wanting payment in today’s dollars for land that they may or may not have hunted and fished on 250 years ago.

With the judicial system justin put in place this tribe could win their case against the people who have been housing, feeding, supplying medical care and educating all of these years. If this is the case, as a taxpayer, I want a counter suit for every penny spent on them.
